What is Breast Aesthetics?

Breast aesthetics is the general term for plastic surgery operations that surgically correct problems related to the shape, size, position or symmetry of the breast. Among the most frequently performed aesthetic operations in the world, breast aesthetic procedures are examined under three main headings: breast augmentation, breast lift and breast reduction.

Within the scope of the plastic surgery services we offer at EFC Clinic, personalised breast aesthetic planning is carried out by our experienced surgeons.

Breast Augmentation (Augmentation Mammoplasty)

Breast augmentation is a surgical procedure in which silicone or saline-filled implants are placed beneath the breast tissue or chest muscle. It offers an ideal solution for naturally small breasts, volume loss following breastfeeding or weight loss, and asymmetry.

Which Implant Type Should Be Chosen?

Silicone gel implants offer a more natural feel and appearance, while saline-filled implants allow size adjustment when necessary. The implant shape (round or anatomical/teardrop), size and surface texture (smooth or textured) are determined together with the surgeon according to the patient’s body structure and expectations.

Which Incision Technique is Used?

The most appropriate method is selected from axillary (underarm), periareolar (around the nipple) or inframammary (under the breast fold) incision lines according to patient anatomy and implant type. All incisions are placed in as concealed an area as possible with careful planning.

Breast Lift (Mastopexy)

A breast lift (mastopexy) is a surgical procedure that reshapes and raises breasts that have experienced sagging and deformation. It is applied in cases of sagging resulting from pregnancy, breastfeeding, weight fluctuations or ageing.

Can Breast Lift and Augmentation be Performed in the Same Session?

Yes. If volume loss exists alongside sagging, mastopexy and augmentation can be applied in combination in the same session. This combination is also known as a “breast lift and augmentation” and is frequently preferred as it offers a single recovery process.

Recovery Process

Mild pain and swelling in the first few days are expected. Use of a special support bra is recommended for 4-6 weeks. Return to social life is generally possible within 7-10 days. The final result emerges within 6-12 months.

Breast Reduction (Reduction Mammoplasty)

Large and sagging breasts can cause serious complaints such as back, neck and shoulder pain, skin irritation, postural problems and social restrictions. Breast reduction offers both an aesthetic and functional solution.

In the operation, excess fatty tissue, skin and breast tissue are removed and the breast is reshaped and elevated. The nipple and areola are generally repositioned as well. The recovery process is similar to breast augmentation; return to strenuous activities is possible after 6-8 weeks.

Gynaecomastia (Male Breast) Surgery

Gynaecomastia is the abnormal enlargement of breast tissue in men. It can occur due to hormonal imbalances, certain medications or genetic factors. It can be treated with liposuction, breast tissue excision or a combination of both. You can find more information on our plastic surgery page.

  • Aged 18 or over (18-21 and above generally recommended for breast augmentation)

Frequently Asked Questions

Can breast implants be used for life?

Modern silicone implants are extremely durable; however, lifetime guarantee is not given. They can generally be used without problems for an average of 10-20 years. Revision may be required in cases such as capsular contracture, leakage or shape changes.

Does breast augmentation surgery affect breastfeeding?

Breastfeeding capacity is preserved in most patients. However, periareolar incision and implant placement within breast tissue may affect breastfeeding capacity in some cases. It is recommended to discuss this with your surgeon in advance.

Is a breast lift permanent?

Mastopexy results last for many years; however, pregnancy, breastfeeding, weight changes and ageing can cause new sagging over time. Results are better preserved for longer with healthy lifestyle habits and stable weight.

Does insurance cover breast reduction?

Some insurance policies may cover breast reduction in cases of macromastia (excessively large breasts) causing serious pain and functional loss. It is recommended to evaluate this with your insurance company.

When can I fly after surgery?

Generally, short-haul flights are safe 5-7 days after breast aesthetic operations, and long-haul flights 10-14 days after. Your surgeon will provide a clear recommendation based on your individual situation.
