What is Rhinoplasty (Nose Job)?
Rhinoplasty is a surgical procedure performed to change the shape, size or function of the nose. Used to address both aesthetic and functional problems, rhinoplasty is one of the most commonly performed plastic surgery operations worldwide.
Within the scope of the plastic surgery services we offer at EFC Clinic, personalised rhinoplasty planning is carried out by our experienced surgeons.
Why is Rhinoplasty Performed?
Rhinoplasty can be applied for both aesthetic and medical reasons:
- Correcting a hump or deviation in the nasal bone
- Reshaping the nasal tip (lifting, narrowing, rotating)
- Adjusting the size of the nostrils
- Improving facial symmetry and proportion
- Relieving breathing difficulties caused by a deviated septum
- Correcting nasal deformity following an accident or trauma
Open and Closed Rhinoplasty: What are the Differences?
Closed Rhinoplasty
In this technique, where all incisions are made inside the nose, no visible scarring remains on the outside. Less swelling occurs and the recovery process is faster. It is preferred in cases requiring limited corrections.
Open Rhinoplasty
A small incision is made on the columella (the strip of tissue between the nostrils), providing wider access to the nasal tissue. It is preferred for complex cases, revision rhinoplasties and situations requiring extensive reshaping. The columella scar fades over time and becomes virtually invisible.
Piezo Rhinoplasty
This is an advanced technology method in which the nasal bone is treated with millimetre precision using a special instrument that uses ultrasonic vibration. Damage to surrounding tissues is minimised and swelling and bruising are significantly reduced. Piezo rhinoplasty is also available at EFC Clinic.
Who is Suitable for Rhinoplasty?
Ideal candidates for rhinoplasty are:
- Individuals aged 18 or over whose nasal development is largely complete
- Those who are dissatisfied with the nasal structure aesthetically or functionally
- Those whose general health condition is suitable for surgery
- Those with realistic expectations who are applying of their own free will
Since smoking negatively affects the recovery process, quitting smoking before and after the operation is recommended.
Rhinoplasty Operation Process
1. Consultation and Digital Planning
A comprehensive consultation is carried out before the operation. Our surgeon evaluates the facial structure, skin thickness and nasal anatomy, and visualises the expected outcome with the help of digital simulation. The patient’s expectations and the limitations of the operation are clearly shared at this stage.
2. Operation
Rhinoplasty is generally performed under general anaesthesia and takes between 1.5-3 hours. After the procedure is completed, a tampon is placed inside the nose and a cast or splint is placed on the outside.
3. Recovery Process
A cast or splint is used for approximately 7-10 days after the operation. Swelling and bruising around the nose during this period is normal. It is possible to return to social life in the first 2-3 weeks. The final result fully emerges within 6-12 months depending on skin thickness and the scope of the operation.
Revision Rhinoplasty
Revision rhinoplasty can be applied for patients who have previously undergone rhinoplasty but are not satisfied with the results or have experienced complications. This procedure, which should be planned at least 12 months after the first operation, is more complex than primary rhinoplasty and requires an experienced surgeon.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is rhinoplasty permanent?
Yes. Changes made to the bone and cartilage are permanent. Only non-surgical rhinoplasty performed with filler is temporary (12-18 months).
When can I return to social life after rhinoplasty?
It is possible to return to social life after the cast or splint is removed, i.e. on days 7-10. The second week is generally sufficient for a work environment.
Can rhinoplasty and septoplasty be performed in the same session?
Yes. If there is an aesthetic problem along with a septal deviation, both procedures can be performed in the same session.
At what age can rhinoplasty be performed?
Rhinoplasty can be performed from the age of 18, when nasal development is complete. There is no upper age limit; it can be performed at any age as long as the general health condition is suitable for surgery.
Is rhinoplasty in Turkey safe?
Rhinoplasty operations performed by experienced plastic surgeons in accredited clinics are safe to international standards. All operations at EFC Clinic are carried out in accordance with international protocols.
